We love homeschool online!
Homeschool online has been really great for us. The kids struggled to concentrate at school, but they really engage with online programmes. Some of our favourite paid sites are Reading Eggs (plus the Maths Seeds extension) and ABCmouse. These have helped the boys to enjoy working at their correct reading, writing and maths levels. Some free sites we love are CBeebies and PBS Kids. For kids who find it hard to focus, they are keen to get through each level and to learn new things. Gamification in education is always a winner!
Being comfortable with computers is so important in this day and age. So apart from learning how to read, do maths and write, they are also learning how to find things with Google and to design with Illustrator. Next we’re going to have to teach them how to code!
I know some people are unsure about using online programmes to homeschool. But I say, use what works! If screentime is controlled and used in a positive way, it can really open up so much of the world. We love this because we’re sitting at the very bottom of Africa. Using screens has allowed my kids to connect with oters children from across the world!
